Immigrant Visas (Green Cards)

Immigrant visas allow the foreign national to become a lawful permanent resident in the United States. The two primary methods to obtain lawful permanent resident status are by Family-Based Immigration and Employment-Based Immigration. There are other methods also such as through Asylum-Refugee status, Diversity Visas and several less common methods.

Citizenship

After obtaining lawful permanent status in the United States, the green card holder may want to become a citizen of the United States. There are many benefits of becoming a U.S. citizen like the right to vote, eligibility for government jobs, protection from deportation and freedom to travel in addition to many other benefits.

Non-Immigrant Visas

Non-Immigrant visas allow the foreign national to stay legally in the United States for a temporary period of time. Some Non-Immigrant visas allow for temporary employment while others forbid any employment whatsoever. Eventually a Non-Immigrant visa comes to a conclusion because it is deemed temporary.

Diversity Visas

The Diversity Visa Program is for foreign nationals of under-represented immigrant countries to register and engage in a random lottery to help diversify the immigrant demographics in the United States. Every year 50,000 slots are allocated for this lottery. The annual winners selected are eligible for lawful permanent residency in the United States. However, the winners need to act quickly to obtain the Immigrant Visa during that fiscal year. Otherwise the lottery slot is voided on October 1, the government’s fiscal year.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program offers temporary protection against removal or deportation for certain eligible immigrants who came to the U.S. illegally as children. You can keep the photo with the children in it.

Alternatively, an L-1A Intracompany Transferee of an Executive or Manager can lead to an Immigrant Visa with less investment. Substantial Investment and trade for E-1 and E-2 Non-Immigrant Visas from Treaty Eligible Countries are also possible on a renewable, temporary basis.
